Thought I’d solicit some expert advice before dropping a sizable chunk on this setup. Will be running RHEL and using for Maya/Mental Ray. Does it seem balanced and can you spot any potential bottlenecks?

Hola! We're looking at replacing our in-house scheduling system with Scheduall. There's various guidance from the vendor as to hardware options... Anyone got any tips on this? We'll have around 300 users, prolly only 60 or so of them "busy" users. We've got a beefy VM infrastructure, so I'd just bang it on there. Anyone running clustered SQL on actual hardware? Multiple app / web servers? Doesn't seem to me like it would be a hefty system to run ...  Looking at setting up a two camera system at a studio in Hollywood.  Would like to have at least one month's worth of storage capability.   Had some good recommendations for New Generation CCTV.  Wondering if there are other cost effective vendors that one could recommend?  Not opposed to a DIY, but would rather use an experienced vendor.  All recommendations welcomed.

Hello,

Any of you people got to authenticate OSX against Microsoft's AD ?

My goal is to authenticate OSX on AD, match uid and gid with Microsoft's ServicesForUnix ; which I succeed at this point.

Then sudo and ssh access fails... need to fix. I also need to use nfs networked home folder, which is obviously not "of the shelf".

Any ideas ?

Thanks a lot !

My Friends over at Ntropic have been working on releasing their in-house production management tool called NIM. An alternative to Ftrack and Shotgun for the small to medium size shops.

I think its showcases what user design, simplicity is all about.

Check it out!

Andrew will be at Siggraph if anyone is interested in checking it out.

In case someone has dropped off the notification list, Autodesk just announced end-of-life for the HP xw9400, xw8600, and now that they support RHEL6 on the Z800, they are also EOLing RHEL4 and RHEL5.

So from now on it's Z800 and Z820 running RHEL 6.2.

Hi!

If anyone in the PNW would be interested in working a network rewiring and re-racking project August 16 and 17 (Sat, Sun), please contact me off the list with your rate and availability. This will likely be 8 hours each day, mostly running wire, terminating, un-racking/re-racking. Our preference is that you invoice us directly as a vendor (this wont be an HR involved engagement).

Thanks!

Screen Recording Software for Linux - anything decent
posted by  on Aug. 4, 2014, 6:30 p.m.

Hey all,

Do you guys have some suggestions about screen recording software for Linux (centos).  We have been running Recordmydesktop and Krut but have seen issues with folk here getting Siggraph presentations ready.  The main things (are also the obvious ones), frame rate / dropped frames and poor compression.

I am just sniffing around for something a little more robust that we could look at implementing here, any suggestions would be appreciated.

http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia.html but its Windows/Mac only..thats what we mainly use..

Maybe you can VNC into your linux box which we have used in the past..

For our ipad product demos we have been outputting to a blackmagic disk recorder and a Pix recorder.. which you could do the same for linux in this manor.. and then edit afterwards and record the VO if any...
