Hi all,

As I revisit Cacti which Im not real crazy about, whats the consensus amongst my fellow specialists regarding SNMP monitoring tool suites?

Seems like Zabbix has good traction as does OpsView.

But I recall one other and cant for the life of me remember.

Any feedback is appreciated, your views, opinions, experiences, etc

Just FYI. I got my upgrades from Pixologic today. Looks like there isnt a new license file. Just a new installer that runs next to 4R5 and above. You'll need to copy your .lics and .dll or .lib files to the new RLM folders. Only catch is there is a 32bt and 64bt version so you need to make sure you copy those files into both locations. -Tommy To unsubscribe from the list send a blank e-mail to mailto:studiosysadmins-discuss-request@studiosysadmins.com?subject=unsubscribe

Windows 7 SMB 2 metadata refresh issues

I'm familiar with NFS metadata caching issues, what about SMB 2?

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff686200(v=ws.10).aspx

Has anyone played around with those registry values? There are claims floating around that the "DirectoryCacheLifetime" default is in fact 10 minutes rather than 10 seconds.

What about a utility that would allow a user to flush the SMB2 client metadata cache that you could run if you want to see your render and the SMB2 client insists that there is nothing there?

I mean, aside from the general existential sort that always plague Adobe stuff?

The status is supposedly just fine and dandy, but whenever I try to click download I get an unhelpful error message that they are experiencing "problems."

Which is of course pretty much useless for me as far as figuring out if there's anything I can do. Does anybody else remember when you could download software by FTP? It wasn't an absurdly complicated server stack glued together with 17 piles of Javascript that nobody understands, which downloads a downloader, which installs an installer. You just connected to Walnut Creek, and even though it was over a modem, it was somehow still less maddening than getting software over a modern 100 Mbit connection...

Now if they ONLY paid attention to the theme of my rant and moved to RLM.. at least the license server wont expire in the middle of production at 3am. YAY.

-------------------------------------------------------->

Dear Zoic Engineering Dept.

Following your feedback, we are changing the license policy for our License Server. Until now, you were required to renew your License Server every year in order to continue using it, but we have decided to void this requirement and make all License Servers perpetual licenses instead :-)

What this means is that you can continue using your existing License Server forever, without ever having to renew it! (if you upgrade to newer versions of e-on products, you will still have to upgrade the License Server as well, in order to be able to serve these newer versions).

To transform your License Server into a perpetual license, please download the latest update from the Software Updates page. This update also adds several new features and product enhancements:

The License Server no longer expires :-)

Adds compatibility with MacOS 10.10 (Yosemite)

Adds the option to seamlessly upgrade the Server for 2015 licenses and up

Improves license information display in the License Server controller and log files

Hey guys...looking to hire a senior developer / programmer who has extensive experience with C++, Unreal Engine, and the Oculus SDK to lead the technical development of a high profile project.

Would prefer someone onsite here in sunny Santa Monica, CA but am open to rockstar candidates offsite. If you know of anyone looking please direct them to the job description below or have them hit me up off list. Thanks in advance.

PS I know there is a job board (posted there as well) but this project is very time sensitive and the talent pool we are looking for is very specialized. Apologies for the post in discuss but I am betting not everyone monitors the job postings list because you are all happy with your jobs :)

Hey all,

(reposting here from our shotgun-dev list per suggestion... sorry if I'm breaking any list rules!)

I'm on a panel tomorrow at NAB about cloud rendering and thought it would be
cool to report (unofficially) on some thoughts from this list.  I made a
multiple choice 5-question survey that will take 90 seconds to fill out.  Do
it and I'll buy you a beer next time I see you!

https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/58YHS7Q

I'll report back the results to the list.

Thanks in advance.  And if you're at NAB, come by and say hello.

cheers,

Hi,

I run a small studio in Vancouver and I need to rent some render nodes short-term. I don't want to use cloud rendering and would prefer to rent from studios in town who have available nodes. I don't have space, cooling or power for render servers at my site so they would need to stay hosted at your site.

I have a 100 Mb Internet connection.

Please reply if you have some nodes available I could rent.

Hi again,

Still struggling to make OS X do stuff that most unixes do out of the box. We are using our workstations as render nodes but what Im finding is that it seems to be impossible to mount a NAS share so that multiple users on the same machine can use the same mount point. Even with auto mount it seems the first user to access it owns it and none else can access it even with -d 777. That means every user that submits a render job has a different path to assets etc. That sucks!

What am I doing wrong?

Apologies in advance if I am being silly,
Greg

Improvements:

- Autodesk will now send you an email letting you know that a new version of Maya has been released
- They've updated the account management portal, it might actually be better.
- Even though you clicked a link called 'Download Now' you aren't brought to a download page by clicking it and even better, 2016 isn't even in the list of available downloads.

New update to Chrome today disabled NPAPI plugins resulting in issues with Shotgun's Toolkit browser plugin.

To fix go to the following link in browser and click Enabled: chrome://flags/#enable-npapi

If you have Chrome GPO (which as a side note I recommend everyone have in an enterprise deployment) you can set it with thePluginsAllowedForUrls ( https://www.chromium.org/administrators/policy-list-3#PluginsAllowedForUrls )

Don't get me started with that.. Aspera stopped working as well. Had lots of clients calling us today. As well as Unity Web Plugin.

The fix you mentioned will not work for long....

"Enterprise

Enterprise administrators will be able to whitelist specific NPAPI plug-ins by adding them to theEnabledPluginspolicylist, to avoid their users seeing the UI mentioned above. Setting this policy also re-enables NPAPI plugins.

This, however, will not be relevant once support for NPAPI is completely removed from Chrome in September 2015. Hence we recommend enterprises and enterprise app developers as well to move entirely off NPAPI as soon as possible."

UnityDownloadAssistant-5.0.1f1.exe

I can pretty much guarantee that at no time in the history of electronic software distribution has anyone ever said "gee, I really wish this application had its own custom downloader, because those guys at Microsoft / Apple / Mozilla / Google clearly don't know what they are doing with those web browser things, and don't even get me started about those curl / wget people...".

I feel slightly better now.

So all this talk of towerstream and Bel air has made me think about point to point networking between buildings.

We are thinking about taking some space across the street, and it seems like there are two options for me. Dark fiber, which I have already gotten some pricing on, and point to point wireless.

Now, I haven't even begun to look into what is out there for point to point these days, anyone have a good direction to point me in? Is anyone doing this? Gig speeds or higher is what I am looking for.

Thanks
