I had seen that someone on here was looking for a studio rental awhile back so I thought I would share.

There is a studio available for short term or long term rental. Can house about 30 artists. It is in the Los Angeles area. Here is what they already have.

Would any of our Toronto members fancy getting some beers in on Tuesday the 20th or Wednesday the 21st?

I'll be making the journey to Toronto this winter for Christmas with the family and was hoping to meet some of our Canadian contingent?.

Stability of Tiger Technology's iSCSI MetaSAN

By Simon Cox -

Hi All,

I'll keep this brief to begin with as I might be the only. Anyone out there using Tiger iSCSI MetaSAN? I am having hellish problems getting the iSCSI metasan from Tiger Technology to stay stable/corruption free for more than a few days. My setup is simple : -

Private Arista 10gig switch. 5 x 10 gig clients connect to 2x infortrend 10gig ISCSI chassis . Metadata is transfered over public gigabit network (first place I am looking at as the cause of my problems)

On paper it looked great. My initial pre-production test worked well. But in production, not good at all. I get random data corruption, un predictable I/O speed and

If anyone out there is doing something similar I would love to hear of your experiences.

I am ready to jack the whole lot in and going back to samba/NFS

good day,

what are you using for data center humidification?  my understanding is there are a few ways to add humidity into the environment,  boiling or evaporation for example.  is one better than the others,  if so why?

Lightning -> network equipment

By Greg Ercolano -

So those of you living in areas where you get a lot of lightning, certainly UPS's will protect your power, but do you ever get lighting sneaking in through internet connections?

I'd like to think there's optical isolation going on in the equipment attached to the internet, so that hits to eg. exterior internet copper doesn't get in past the exterior modem equipment, but not sure I've ever seen lighting protection mentioned in eg. DSL or Cable modem docs.

I'd like to think lighting protection is standard, but not sure..

PS. Nice big thunderstorm moving in over Pasadena; seen a few bolts from my office window.

Hey,

Does anyone know of any good way to get some measurable performance data (real or synthetic) from Maya 2011?? We are having some poor GPU performance using a Quadro 4000 in a 12-core Mac Pro running Fedora 15 with Nvidia driver version 275.09. and I'd like to test it against some different GPU's we have laying around in storage.

Thanks!

Awkward

Happy Friday, everybody.  This is the magical Friday when people sit around the office awkwardly opening Secret Santa gifts while everyone stares and hopes nobody can tell that they bought it that morning at Duane Reade, even though eveyrone totally knows.  Totally.

Friday Survey:  What's the worst or best Office Secret Santa gift you ever received or gave?

On the other hand, there might be beer.  So?. That's good.

Speaking of awkward, Apple is making things worse:

LF: Red Racer Beer

By Todd Smith -

Hey Guys,

Since we are all talking of beer, I'm dying to have more Red Racer Beer.  I basically spent 7 hours at the Cask Days festival drinking the 4 brews they brought with them from BC.  They were far and away the hands down winner in my mind that day.
With that said, I've tried contacting the sales dept. at Red Racer to figure out how I can get this beer in Ontario, but that's apparently a dead end.  So now I turn to all of you BC folk out there.

If you can easily get your hands on Red Racer products please get in touch with me, I will pay you handsomely to ship me some of this delicious brew!!

Cheers,
Todd Smith
