Trouble shooting an internet issue and want to confirm some things.? I'd need it for about 20 minutes and would do about 3-4 runs against it.?? Only requirement is you have more than a 10 megabit connection.? 100 or 1000 would be nice but not necessary for what I'm attempting to prove.?

or if you happen to know of any public ones that would be great.?

thanks much,
greg

XSAN? ISIS? Isilon? 64GB USB drive? Thanks! .__.__. Jonathan E. By Paul Roche - Hi Guys, Rather than reply to the Pixel thread about license tracking, I decided to create a new thread about some code Rainmaker has allowed me to make public. Its a re-write of the sourceforge project of the same name, but it works for flexlm, rlm, spm, rvl, sesi, tweak and pixar. Majority of the work was done a couple years ago and I'm not a developer so best of luck to whoever tries to get it running! https://github.com/proche-rainmaker/phplicensewatcher There isn't much documentation (hi!) so shoot me any questions and I'll try to get back to you. By Jean-Francois Panisset - While we're flogging the licensing horse to death, found this document regarding upgrading the ADLM license manager: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=8057738&linkID=9240617 which claims: Note: This procedure can be performed without affecting users who are running the software, provided the entire procedure is completed within a reasonable amount of time (20-30 minutes). The Maya / XSI users rushing to my office door a few seconds after I tried to do this seemed to think otherwise... Rookie mistake on my part (interestingly, it didn't kick out all my users, just a select few). SSA meeting @RFX last night

By Brian Krusic - Sorry I missed it.

Would have been nice to see some faces of those I talk sh%$ to via email :)

At any rate, while it is most likely beyond the scope or interest of this group, I wanted to bring up what I feel is THE biggest issue in our sector.

Its not tech or management tools, pipeline, DAM, fast servers, etc... its really how projects are managed.  And how a producers tool kit will elevate or bring down a project.

You can't blame clients for wanting stuff fast and free, but its up to producers to manage that.

Much as there is a PMP and a PMP BOK. there should be a VFX Producer BOK and perhaps a cert to go with it showing one has mastered the concepts.

This can only work if the industry, perhaps the academy or some group of influentials gets together and drives this initiative.

There is tons of work and tons of effects shots needed and there is lots to go around.

I don't think one can say that China Corp or ACME India are to blame as after all, projects need managing and clients are clients.

Anyways, i do realize this is very off topic and off scope.  And that I do Troll often but I've never been one to look at a problem w/o trying to first get a birds eye view of the planet per se.

Anyone interested in a good condition SGI Indigo2 (green one) with monitor in the NYC area. ?Would be glad to donate it for the cost of hauling it away. ?Bought for $50k new in the early 1990's, now worth pennies. ?

I've just moved into a smaller apartment and just can't afford to keep holding onto this beast for sentimental reasons. ?As far as I know, it works fine and I have the original OS CD set. ?I think Alias PowerAnimator is still on it along with other goodies from the 1990's.

NAB Invitation from HDS

$

By Ravi Rabheru -

Hello all!

Firstly, apologies for the slight salesy pitch on this email I know I’ll get moaned at – but don’t worry it’s an invite for beers at NAB too J

With NAB coming round the corner I’d thought I’d send out the invite to the HDS booth, and of course the invitation to our evening event at TAO nightclub on the Weds.

I know there’s been a lot of talk on here about us, and this would be a great chance to meet with some of you and discuss the issues you’ve been having and see if we can really focus on helping everyone out. From my perspective I used to work for a reseller in the UK from the old BlueArc days and I’m now part of HDS to focus on purely on “Media & Entertainment” in the UK.

Anyway, we’ve got a lot of interesting announcements at NAB, but really I hope that you’ll come talk to us and speak to about what we’ve got planned over the next year to really improve our products and support for the industry. Also please please please if you’ve got issues and need help this is definitely the place to come talk to us so we can highlight them to the powers that be and get things sorted.

If not…at least come for drinks, we all like free drinks! J - you do need to register though as its invite only (invite attached).

Thanks and I hope this doesn’t open up a flurry of NAB invites as this is kind of relevant to a recent thread J
