Hey what are people using on the desktop these days for 3D monitors. We have been using the LG LG D2342P-BN that has been replaced by the LG D2343P-BN but I have also heard they are no longer going to make 3D monitors. Anyone one have preferences to what to use? Must be passive glasses.

Thanks -Terry

After reading JF's Dump about Flame and S&W...?

Can we setup a StudioSysadmin General Wiki we can all start contributing too.?
The same questions come up over and over it would be great to have something more organized for everyone refer too and easier to update overtime.

There could be different sections..

Flame
? ? ?-Networking?
? ? ?-Storage Config

Switches
? ? ?-Cisco
? ? ?-Foundry
? ? ?-Force10?
? ? ? etc..?

Networking
? ? ?-Linux
? ? ? ?-NFS Mounting blah blah..
? ? ?-Windows
? ? ?-OSX

If not I have no problem hosting one at our COLO on a VM ?for people to contribute and SSA can Link to that from its website.

I was having no end of trouble getting the dedicated IPMI network port to work on some SuperMicro servers until I ran across the following:

http://serverfault.com/questions/361940/configuring-supermicro-ipmi-to-use-one-of-the-lan-interfaces-instead-of-the-ipmi

Turns out you can also configure this property through the web interface (assuming it is up and running in "passthrough mode" on the first Ethernet port and you can actually get to it), but sending "raw" IPMI commands with ipmicfg made me feel all powerful.

Hi all, Just had to generate another license for a compositor. You know the usual login to website, download the file, move to a place specific for the particular machine. Got tired of it and made a small little script automating the first part so the rest is easier. Wanted to share it if anyone else could use it. Just fill in email and password of your account and use the hw id as argument to the script. - Jimmy

So who would like to get together sometime in December to sit around and have a few drinks, mingle, chat etc?

We have not had a gathering in Toronto for some time, so it might be a perfect opportunity to find out what everyone is insterested in seeing for upcoming meetings in the new year.

Let me know who is interested so we can start gathering some info and set a date :)

Question:?

What does a render license do ??
Can we use the render license on our "publishing" machine.

We got a Autodesk Iffs license, on floating and wondering if we can get a
"render" license to run on a second Smoke machine, to render and publish our timelines, which are?created on the first Smoke, while it?s working with the main Iffs genarts license.?

Directory services / SSO - what are you doing?
posted by Rory Falloon on Nov. 22, 2013, 12:10 p.m. (2 days ago)
Hello.

This has come up before but not the last couple of years that I can find on the list. What are you using for authentication in your shop? Are you unified on one type for all O/S's? If so, what are you using?

Linux/NIS, Windows/AD has and will do the trick for me but obviously a unified approach to this would hopefully solve some headaches.  Certain vendor requirements have caused us to enforce password complexity and length rules which are non-existent in NIS. I feel LDAP/AD would be better for this. I'm thinking of biting the bullet and pushing all towards AD, Zimbra and Shotgun included, and binding Linux auth to AD.

Is anyone using AD for their authentication but leaving the other parts of the directory services to (Open?) LDAP?. I feel like this would be ideal.

Thanks.

Thanks.
