Try #2: FS: MiniPower 10KVA 1-p UPS in London W1

We're replacing this UPS at the weekend with a larger unit and it would be great to find it a new home: http://www.upspower.co.uk/products/products-1/minipowerplus-single-phase-ups-1-25-10kva-32.aspx It's comprised of an inverter head and 2x battery boxes. Full-load runtime is spec'd at 20 mins. It's a hardwired unit, so no C-conns at the rear. Has an internal bypass switch for maintenance. We purchased it in 2010 and it's and has been on constant support, is kept in a cooled room and has received regular yearly maintenance. It was recently serviced and had 2 fans in the inverter head replaced We feel the batteries are still in reasonably good shape, but the UPS company specs replacement at intervals regardless, so it would in theory be due for battery replacement this year. Email me offline of you'd like any more information. It can be viewed operating in-situ in W1W until Friday PM. ta - cal@bluebolt To unsubscribe from the list send a blank e-mail to mailto:studiosysadmins-discuss-request@studiosysadmins.com?subject=unsubscribe

Hopefully the group can help me with some items on an MPAA audit which I need to resolve. 1) Linux systems, anti virus/anti malware software. What is recommended? 2) I have inherited an NIS system and I need to improve the security to MPAA guidelines. I have only configured LDAP in the past so some pointers would be helpful. In some circumstances (in my case applying 10.9.2 -> 10.9.3 update from Software Update), OS X now hides /Users by default.

chflags nohidden /Users

makes it visible in Finder again. No opinion yet if that's good or bad.

From a friend at another studio, just this morning:

And it happened...Adobe Cloud took a shit...no one can install new apps....you can still run any installed versions provided its phone home within the last 30 days

Yeah, we ran into that yesterday when we needed to get a new install of CC going. so we could edit some MXF files and couldn't install ANYTHING. That was awesome.

Plus, yeah, they need to remember AE needs real renderfarm support

It's amazing that they are coming out with their online cloud collaboration thing, and you never talk to anyone that knows about renderfarm support in AE that's been there for how long. 10 years? 20 years?

OS X 10.9, BlueArc and SMB 2
posted by Jean-Francois Panisset on May 22, 2014, 4:15 p.m. (10 days ago)
Google reveals very few details about OS X support for SMB 2 in 10.9, so I figured I would share some recent observations.

Client is OS X 10.9.3, server is a BlueArc running 11.3 code, which adds support for SMB 3.

cifs-max-supported-version 3

was used to enable SMB 3 support on that particular EVS (virtual server).

What WireShark shows when you try to mount the volume from the client is the following:

- client sends SMB "Negotiate Protocol Request" packet with dialects "NT LM 0.12", "SMB 2.002" and "SMB 2.???"
- server responds with SMB2 "Negotiate Protocol Response" "I support dialect 0x02ff", which according to:

means:

SMB2 wildcard revision number; indicates that the server implements SMB 2.1 or future dialect revisions and expects the client to send a subsequent SMB2 Negotiate request to negotiate the actual SMB 2 Protocol revision to be used. The wildcard revision number is sent only in response to a multi-protocol negotiate request with the "SMB 2.???" dialect string.

- client sends SMB2 "Negotiate Protocol Request" packet with a single dialect, 0x0210
- server responds with SMB2 "Negotiate Protocol Response" with a single dialect, 0x0210

So there you go: given the option of speaking Windows 8 / Server 2012 level SMB 3, OS X 10.9.3 will only request / negotiate WIndows 7 / Server 2008R2 level SMB 2.1.

This should make things interesting, how long before we end up in a SR situation ?

Two Japanese companies decided last months to stop manufacturing tape cartridge media (especially LTO): Maxell and TDK.

http://www.storagenewsletter.com/rubriques/tapes/just-two-tape-cartridge-manufacturers-remaining-fujifilm-and-sony/

and three in tape drives (HP, IBM, Oracle StorageTek)

and three in HDDs (Seagate, HP, Toshiba)

Not sure how many workstation makers there are these days.

Creative Cloud activation behind proxy

Hi

Has anyone had any success with activating Creative Cloud apps when behind an authenticated proxy? I re-packaged the installer so we can install it without the CC agent thingy and need to activate Photoshop.

I've watched our squid logs and there are no hits on the proxy server apart from loading web assets during the wizard. We're using Win7 + squid proxy with SSL interception.

Any guidance appreciated!

Hello everyone!

I trust that you are all well.  We are working on a production that was shot using Red Log.  We are having some colour pipeline issues and looking for some advice.

We have a Matte painter who is using Photoshop CC (Windows) and she is having trouble viewing this properly when working.

Since Photoshop doesn’t have the ability to use .cube files as a Custom Proof Condition we need to covert this to a ICC profile so we can see this correctly when working in Photoshop.  I’ve quickly tried to do the conversion on a Mac, however didn’t have much luck.

I’m just wondering how does anyone else deal with this (via open source or commercial software)?  If anyone has any tips/tricks it would be appreciated.

Thank you and looking forward to your reply

Jeremy
