We have a quantum superloader3 with a LTO5 drive (also the same as a
Dell 124, I think) . I have just started getting a write error.
Quantum provides a utility (xTalk) to diagnose errors on the drive,
here are the results: Drive Information Report Drive Type ---------------- : Ultrium 5 Drive Serial Number ------- : HU1123GT8D Media Changer Present ----- : No Vendor ID ---------------- : QUANTUM Product ID ---------------- : ULTRIUM 5 Product Revision Level ---- : 3210 Product Family ------------ : 1.5 / 3.0 TB Servo FW Revision --------- : A011 Power On Hours ------------ : 14825 Tape Motion Hours --------- : 714 Load Count ---------------- : 727 Cleaning Tape Count ------- : 13 Last Clean ---------------- : 0 Time Error Error Description ======================================= 714 Hours 03/14/00 "Recorded Entity Not Found. My question is - has anyone worked with quantum before, can this be fixed, will they want to replace the mechanism? Any idea on a cost - is it worth it? I see that I can pick up the same system with a LTO6 drive for around $3300, so I may want to do that. It seems like 714 hours is pretty low. Has anybody tried to replace the mechanism themselves? I used to do that on an old SDLT loaded without any issues, but this one seems to be a little tighter. Oh, I have cleaned the drive when it requests it, and I use quantum brand media. I am getting this error on all of the brand new tapes that I have tried, so I doubt it is the media. MD --
