Shared SAS RAID Storage for Enterprise SATA drives..

Hi All,

We've 48 WD RE4 2T drives that I'd like to repurpose. Ideally, I'd like to get them into a shared SAS storage array. Something like the Dell MD3000 + 2x MD1000 (if the drives are compatible).

I'm new to the shared storage thing. Does anyone know of any other potential solutions? Do any work with SATA drives?

Any observations/thoughts/superstitions most welcome.
