| Hi All,
I'm trying to build a dailies transcoding box, focussing on processing Red Epic-X Dragon 6K (BIG job looming in a few weeks).
As this new 6K leaves my old Red Rocket card redundant, I'm throwing some capex at the problem, but its all theory until my feature service job starts rolling and the log jam is imminent!
Is anyone experienced in throwing GPUs at the problem rather than investing in a Rocket X? I may have an Alexa job after this so want to stay within budget of Rocket but keep it camera agnostics.
I'm in south africa so orders take long to get to me and/or limited by choice.
I've currently thrown a Z820, 16GB ram, 2 x Nvidia K4000 cards and a fibre attached JBOD with about 300MBps read speed.
I've got Epic 5K footage to play with and I'm getting perfect realtime playback at 1/2 quality in CineXpro, realtime exports to 1500Kbps H.264 at 1/4 quality @ 720p...
Test file is around 16GB for 3 mins...
GPUs are both under 50% load, ram isn't maxing out, 24cores of cpu are working VERY hard.
I can't remember the processor specs, but its pretty good I think, either way I'm stuck with them looking for some advise on pushing performance.
I can't keep this system config as I've juggled units in my facility... I've got a couple of Asus GeForce GTX 780 6GB on hold for a possible permanent solution...
Currently playing with CineX as above, we have Assimilate Scratch licences floating around, Resolve is a possibility...
Would love some insight into the experience of others?
Cheers,
Gareth.
