Half-height vs Full-height LTO 6 FC drives
posted by Tom Sweatman on Jan. 29, 2015, 9:36 a.m. (1 day ago)

Hi,

I’ve been looking at various tape backup hardware and noticed some libraries support either full or half height or both. Half height drives tend to be more cheaper, specifically the Ultrium 6250 drives. Looking at the specs, noticed the buffer size is half of what you get with most full height drives. Wondering how this effects performance operationally, but would like to hear from anyone who has had experiences with these drives. If you could share any noticeable drops in performance and if possible how these compare against experiences with full height drives that would be great. I’m looking at having these drives operating 24/7, but concerned if these drives will be up to the job.

Thanks,

Tom
