4K Playback/Monitoring In RV
posted by Rob Gestone on Feb. 5, 2015, 1:36 p.m. (1 day ago)
Hi all,

I have some potential jobs coming up that shot in 4K @ 24FPS and 2K @ 120FPS stereo respectively, and I'm looking to optimize our current Review setup.

Right now, our setup is an HP Z820 running Windows 7 Pro with an NVIDIA K4000 card. It outputs from the DisplayPort with a DisplayPort to HDMI converter to the HDMI TV, a Samsung 4K UHD LED 9000 (http://www.samsung.com/us/video/tvs/UN65F9000AFXZA).

The footage I've tested is 10bit DPX playing off our server (10G fibre connected via SMB) but caching locally to an SSD---using RV to playback in fullscreen mode to the LED monitor, which acts as the "second" monitor (ie: not using a BlackMagic or KONA card, but rather, extending the screen).

I can get LED to play 24FPS 4K footage at 3840x2160 30Hz, but not completely smoothly--no tearing and not jerky, but definitely doesn't look to be playing the right speed, almost like it is skipping frames. Can't get the monitor to work at 24Hz or 60Hz at that resolution. Could it be the card itself isn't powerful enough to handle it, and if so, any recommendations?

Thanks.
