Nexenta Backups over CIFS
posted by Jeff Yana on April 25, 2015, 3:25 p.m. (2 days ago)

Greetings-

I was wondering if any of you brave Nexenta users out there have had any luck backing up over CIFS using Backup Exec or any other package? We are experiencing issues ranging from "Access Denied" to data corruption errors that seem arbitrary and unpredictable. Its very clearly not an NT permission issue, nor is it likely a POSIX permission issue but we are about to engage Nexenta to see if its an issue on their end.

Regrettably there is no Nexenta NDMP support for Backup Exec so CIFS backup is the only option at this point in time. BE, like many solutions, really like to have an agent running on the remote host to manage/monitor state and communicate back to BE server but being a NAS no such agent is available.

I am trying to get the two vendors in the same room together to butt heads but not too hopeful that is going to produce results beyond the usual vendor blame game.

Thanks.

Jeff
