Optical Disk Archive
posted by Greg Whynott on July 20, 2015, 2:40 p.m. (1 day ago)
Hello,

Been wondering if it is the time to move to optical disk archive storage, such as the Sony (https://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/cat-datastorage/cat-opticaldiscarchive/ ) solutions. Panasonic has one too. Since its that time to spend money there, I want to consider both, even though optical is fairly new.

Some nice things about them is they have a shelf life of 50 years, much more than tape. They don't require special environment considerations like tape does. The move data faster, its random access and its not tape.

Anyone else using them or have considered them? I'm looking at the Petasite Library for our Avid project archiving requirements, I should check if SGL works with them...

thanks,
greg
