Windows server 2012 academic?
posted by  on Aug. 6, 2015, 4:50 a.m.
Hi I was just about to buy a deeply discounted copy of Server 2012 Essentials when i realised that it was an academic version. Being a Linux house, the object of the exercise is to gain experience using 2012 as central AD to replace openldap with the goal of eventually transitioning to MS AD. I have no real qualms re using an EDU version because i am in effect training myself, but when it comes time to upgrade to a commercial Standard licence to get the user count we need, i'm not at all sure that i can actually in-place upgrade an EDU version to commercial. It would be a lot of very sweary work manually recreating a functioning AD setup on a new box if upgrade failed. So, has anyone had any experience, or better yet, success doing this? Also, will i get bit trying to register an academic version w/o edu credentials? thanks! - cal @ bluebolt To unsubscribe from the list send a blank e-mail to mailto:studiosysadmins-discuss-request@studiosysadmins.com?subject=unsubscribe
