Bit off topic for SSA but relevant and very interesting. Podcast about storage and compute for real-time voice recognition (think Siri). There's a lot of parallels to our kinds of workflows. At one point they had a 24000 disks worth of HP MSA RAID shelves running GPFS. GPFS's metadata was being handled by an "MDC" comprising of a 70 node Hadoop compute cluster... The mind boggles.
