launching Houdini on Windows
posted by  on Sept. 16, 2016, 1:30 p.m. (1 day ago)
Hi, Ive been setting up and using Houdini for 20+ years, but strictly on Unix environments. Im doing a brief stint at a place where they run it on Windows. Windows to me is baffling, how in 2016 you can still have drive letters and files with tildes in them to indicate that the real filename is actually much longer. But Ill eventually get over that In the meantime, how do people set environment variables in a halfway intelligent manner on that platform? Do you make the desktop Houdini icon a batch file that sets env vars and then launches the app? Is this what Nuke does (I see it pop open a terminal window, run some stuff and then it launches). AFAIK the Houdini desktop icon is a direct link to the Houdini executable with nothing in between. Any tips or hints appreciated. Theres zero Houdini pipeline in place, and Im trying to bootstrap it to something meaningful.
