desktop view output to 42" TV / reasonable spec playback setup

By Todd Smith -
Most televisions can only display a HD signal (1080p = 1920x1080), so you won't get full desktop resolution on a television.

We use a 42" television for playback off a local SSD RAID (mainly for stereo works).
Can't you just use one of the three outputs on the Quadro 4000 to drive the television?  Just grab a DVI to HDMI converter and it should work fine.  If its Windows I think you can easily run multi-variable resolutions displays and even mirror them if needed.  The same is available on any modern Linux and if you use the Nvidia settings utility, it should also be pretty painless.

I'm looking at outputting from either 1920x1200 or 2560x1600, quadro 4000 based workstation to a 42" TV screen. Has anyone done something similar for a relatively low/medium budget? I'm looking for synced desktop viewing to show Maya on the TV at desktop resolution and also for playback of up to max 1 stream of HD. I'm not interested in any higher res or stereo. I'm happy to stick SSD's raid / fast NIC's into the box to make it fly. However, my first concern is video output to the TV.

What kit /setup is good/would suffice? Nvidia SDI output cards are too expensive!
