I've been on the prowl for new storage ideas, I've been getting some
excellent information about some of the usual suspects.
I have also been trying to puzzle out what it might look like to try and
build something, I built all of my current storage and I like the
flexibility and price leverage that can go with that. I'm not scared of
hardware, but obviously it is the software that makes a truly powerful
storage product possible.
I ran across this:
http://nexenta.com/corp/nexentastor
via this:
http://www.siliconmechanics.com/i47119/zstax-storage-solutions.php
I love the Silicon Mechanics configuration tools, they are great for trying
to puzzle out builds and prices, and the one for the zStax StorCore 104 is a
doozy.
The software licensing is not cheap, but the power of the hardware you can
put together to go with it makes it intriguing. And the software feature
list (without additional invoice lines I might add) is impressive:
snapshots, replication, tiering. Adding high availability is cheap. Also
based on Solaris / zfs for great nerd justice.
I was curious if anyone had any experience with NexentaStor, either direct
or anecdotal. Should I presume that there are other products like this that
I haven't heard of yet?
Any impressions welcome, thanks,
