Accidentally applied restrictive GPO to all users
(including Administrator) |
posted by William Sandler on Nov. 6, 2014, 9 p.m. (1 day ago) |
| Luckily it's a test server/domain, but I'd still like to fix this without deleting the domain. Any ideas?
I can't open Group Policy Editor but I still have an Active Directory Users and Computers open from before I applied the policy if that helps.

| Happens to the best of us... Maybe mount the drive in another sys and delete the folder that contains the GPO object? You can resolve the GUID (they're stored with GUID numbers) with something like: cscript search.vbs "LDAP://dc=mydomain,dc=com" /C:"&(objectClass=groupPolicyContainer)(displayName=Default Domain Policy)" /P:name /S:SubTree
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/216359
Been a while but I think this would work.

Teradici interoperability |
posted by Jean-Francois Panisset on Nov. 7, 2014, 11:50 a.m. (1 day ago) |
| I'm considering various Tera2 scenarios, and one thing I'm wondering about is interoperability between the 2xDVI and 4xDVI devices. If I connect a 2x ZeroClient to a host with a 4x host card, will it just change the display config to 2xDVI (or 1x Dual Link)? What if I have a 4x ZeroClient with 2x 2560x1600 monitors and connect to a host with a 2x host card? Will it just drive 1 monitor at 2560x1600?
If anyone has tried this in the real world, I'd love to hear some feedback.

| If by "the Apple strategy" you mean "becoming a hipster-cult" then yes. Though on that front GoPro seems to have taken it up a level even from those two. I walked passed their stand at IBC and it was surrounded by what can only be described as "hairy bi-focal scruffy children" all chanting "Go-Pro-Go-Pro" and (literally) grunting and beating their chests. It ended in a crescendo of yelling and the stand's Replicant emitted a free camera that was devoured by the mob. Apparently this was normal. | |

We're currently using Deadline for render management, which I love. We're Windows only here, for render nodes, workstations and network storage.
I'm curious if any of you are running it using the service option? I'm thinking of redeploying the slave and launcher as services to the nodes and workstations and was curious if any of you had problems. Thanks!

So, than we try to render using AE CC2014 to .H264 format it failes and showes error message: AE error: Rendering error while writing to file "E:\[file name].mov". An output module failed. The file may be damaged or corrupted. We have found a solution that works, but it's quite dramatic - drop virtualk core number to 20 or less. Maybe someone found a better solution? Ofcourse we could use another format, but some clients precisely request .H264. Thanks. T. | |

Sony F5 footage (XAVC S-log2) crashing Avid 6.5
stations on AMA link |
posted by Julian Firminger on Nov. 13, 2014, 3:40 a.m. |
| Hi all,
Slightly on the adjoining corridor of the great hall that is vfx (i.e. editorial), we've got an issue with Avid 6.5 crashing on consolidation/transcode of AMA linked footage coming of a SonyF5, specifically XAVC S-log2). The interwebs are full of conflicting reasons and Avid are not being helpful other than "it might be fixed if you upgrade to 7 or wait (<unknown>=time) for a patch.
It's not storage dependant, will happen with any source / target combination. Crashes cause either classic Avid Access Violation or various AMA errors followed by either an application hang or a BSOD. yikes! It's random, on random clips, sometimes doesnt happen at all.
1) anyone else seen / seeing this or similar issues with S-log2? 2) if you're using S-log2 off an F5, how are you handling your DI? maybe I can workaround this with a transcode or a conform.
Cheers! Snr. Systems Administrator, United Broadcast Facilities Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Your very own Xeon model |

| Apparently there's a new Amazon EC2 "C4" instance: == https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/new-c4-instances/The new C4 instances are based on the Intel Xeon E5-2666 v3 (code name Haswell) processor. This custom processor, designed specifically for EC2, runs at a base speed of 2.9 GHz, and can achieve clock speeds as high as 3.5 GHz with Turbo boost. == And since the "c4.8xlarge" instance lists 36 "vCPUs", this would seem to indicate that this is an 18 core part with one vCPU = one physical core, no multi-threading? (if you ran 2 vCPUs on a single physical core with MT enabled, that would make the underlying part a 9 core CPU, not impossible but seems unlikely). But who really knows what shenanigans are being played under the Xen layer? It does seem like c4.8xlarge with 60GB would be a nice machine to do rendering on, but no pricing announced yet... Must be nice to be large enough to be able to call up Intel and say "could you make me this particular CPU? we'll be buying so many units per quarter...". JF

SDI to ProRes on trigger: what product? |
posted by on Nov. 17, 2014, 10:25 a.m. (1 day ago) |
| We need to record live feed, 720p60 SDI to ProRes files (on local storage - or ideally - SAN).
We need to programmatically trigger starts and stops, e.g. via REST calls.
Currently we're doing that via Telestream Pipeline HD and Pipeline recording software. Not very reliable, expensive. Looking for alternatives. Ideally, something like a Blackmagic Decklink or Kona 3 with a basic little app with REST interface through which we can issue start and stop commands, filename to use, poll for status (recording, waiting, offline, etc.). ideally on a Windows system (easier to mount in a rack).
Gotta be reliable, not freak out on loss of signal. Extra bonus if there's support for growing files
Thanks!

| We need to record live feed, 720p60 SDI to ProRes files (on local storage - or ideally - SAN).
