I have a dream (licensing)

Okay, I'm mostly a lurker but had an idea.? I have zero time to work on said idea, but I'm curious what others think.

There has been a groundswell of support in recent years for industry standards, convergence on 3rd party apps, and general 'unification' of our pipelines across studios.? More and more code is being shared from openexr 2.0 to opensubdiv and openvdb.

What about license servers?? Aren't there some products that you might kill the engineers on sight for their crappy licensing??

What if smart people like you wrote an open source license server solution designed specifically with large farm scalability in mind?? Getting all farm run apps to converge on a license server solution when cost is involved is difficult.? But if cost isn't involved...

It might make everyone's life easier if we had a standard open source solution where cost wasn't part of the equation.

thoughts?
