Hey All, We (vfx studio) and our main digital lab services provider are trying to progressively migrate to ACES compliant workflow. Open EXR seems to be file format to use and store True Linear /Gamma=1 Images with enough dynamic (16 or 32 bits), but the image size quickly becomes an issue if uncompressed. Happily compressions exist in exr and the filesize can be contained to reasonable values. Then a new issue comes, how to playback those (2K or more) files realtime. I was wondering if some of you guys are using exr for 2K (or+) review, and how do you deal with size vs compression vs realtime decoding ? Are there some accelerating hardware to help decompressing files ( like RedRocket for RedRaw files) that I wouldn't be aware of ? What software do you use for that ?
