I am a bit puzzled as to what they want to do. They want to use MXF as a container format, and only support frame-by-framecodecs (Dirac, OpenEXR, DPX, PNG and JPEG), all of which already exists as open source code, and doesn't really address the real problem which is the IP jungle around anything but the most trivial codecs. So even if there is an open source implementation, you can't use it in a commercial setting without offering up a pound of flesh. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see QuickTime banished from our industry, but I'm not sure how this will help.
