Cinema 4D R17 (and previous version) Install Issues on Mac OSX Sierra
posted by Andrew Spurbeck on Nov. 18, 2016, 8:05 p.m. (1 day ago)
For anyone having trouble installing Cinema 4D R17 or older using ISO's or ZIP files.

Here is a workaround from Maxon.

for unzipping on OS X 10.12 the following has to be done:

- make sure automatic unzipping after download is disabled in your browser (in Safari it's usually on by default), download the zip file
- Open the terminal (e.g. via spotlight, by typing terminal)
- enter or copy&past xattr -d com.apple.quarantine
- enter a space, get to the .zip file in finder, drag and drop it into the terminal
- the path of the zip file should no be appended to the command
- hit the enter key
- unzip the file as usual

Morning all,

I need a instrument for testing short fiber runs (50meter) which can give some trace reports and error reporting.

Recently had several runs placed as part of a new build out and the low voltage vendor could not provide any trace reports because our runs were "too short". They verified the terminations by shining light down the run but we have had numerous issues since.

I know the Fluke DSX5000 exists but I'm not sure it if can provide reliable results with short runs.

Thank you,

Ryan

Hey all,

Does anyone have recommendations on 4k stereo projection systems and installers?  It's for a small screening room (24-28 people) that will review in-house and vendor work work all the way through color and stereo DI.

thanks!

LSI RAID controller config import problem
posted by Jean-Francois Panisset on Nov. 29, 2016, 1:10 p.m. (1 day ago)
I have a nearline storage server where the LSI RAID controller died over the holidays: 20 x 6TB drives on a LSI 9280-24ie4. Controller dead as a door nail, didn't even show up in the BIOS boot screen.

Replacement controller arrived today, installed it, go to BIOS setup menu, and I get the dreaded "ERROR IMPORTING FOREIGN CONFIGURATION". The controller sees all the drive as "Foreign / Unconfigured". Most of the googling I've done shows examples where drives are marked BAD, so marking them GOOD allows the configuration to be imported but that's not my situation, none of my drives are marked BAD.

Has anyone run into a similar situation and have pearls of wisdom to share?

Fortunately it's a nearline server so at worse I can always rebuild the volume, but it would be preferable to be able to salvage it.

Hey SSA - came up on the Nuke list and has me curious: is it still the case with modern windows/samba etc that a //UNC path is slower than a mapped drive? Been any change to this behavior the last few years?

Apparently there is a bunch of Oracle OEM used intel P3605 NVME cards are being sold as NEW in ebay for $600-$1000 these days.I bought one which had 7.5 PB written to it, and it's total write lifespan is 10.95 PBW according to specs. I could return it and get a refund, but there seems to be a lot more of them on the market now .
Be cautious if you are planning to buy them.

Hello,

Can anyone recommend any UK based penetration testing companies? Ideally I'm looking for someone who specialises in the AWS platform. I'm interested in testing both application and network security.

If anyone can recommend someone they've worked with in the past that would be great!

Cheers :D

Was poking around on one of the VM hosts and was pleasantly surprised to see it had over 100 gigs of DRAM in it with 50% un allocated/reserved. It was upgraded since the last time I touched them apparently....

Just want I needed as I wanted to double the memory allocated to the exchange server running on it. Looking at other guests on it, things seem 'normal'.. monitor machine 4 gigs, spam 4 gigs, db 8 gigs, sso/auth proxy 2 gigs and so on..

Then I see this:

lol Andrew!!! 128 megs. love it. This is our main kickstart/pxe boot, tftp image deployment server, has been in service for over 5 or 6 years now. Never once noticed it was acting sluggish. Reminds me of the days my Indy only have 8 megs, thought I was being silly upgrading it to 16 and 32 megs would be just showing off. lol. UNIX!!!!

the kicker is it seems happy, not a single page in swap:
